Since its debut in 2013, the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has stood tall as a celebration of excellence in African film and television. Created by Africa Magic in partnership with MultiChoice Africa, the AMVCA was designed to recognize outstanding talent across acting, directing, production, writing, and more.
What began as a single-day event has evolved into a multi-day cultural spectacle. Over the years, new categories have been introduced, digital content creators embraced, and technical professionals finally given their flowers. The AMVCA goes beyond just trophies, it has become a stage for emerging stars, a platform for legacy recognition, and a red carpet that rivals global fashion weeks.

Things kicked off on Wednesday, May 7 with Icons Night, an elegant opening to the week’s festivities. On this night, industry pioneers were toasted and celebrated for their lifelong contributions to African film and television. Thursday, May 8 was all about the future with Young Filmmakers’ Day. Panels, workshops, and networking sessions gave emerging creatives a platform to shine and learn.

By Friday, May 9, the energy soared with Cultural Day. Hosted by Nollywood’s Stan Nze, the night was a vibrant splash of African heritage and creativity. The outfits were jaw-dropping, traditional yet modern, bold yet intentional. Liquorose and Prince Nelson snagged Best Dressed of the night, and rightly so. Nigerian celebrities turned out in looks that could rival and in many eyes, surpass the Met Gala and it likes. Fashion designers and stylists showed up and showed out, turning the red carpet into a live runway of rich textiles, breathtaking headpieces, and show-stopping silhouettes. I mean did you See Mercy Aigbe, Efe Irele, Saga, Olivia Okoro or even Yemi Cregx? It was beyond beyond.
Saturday, May 10 was the grand finale. The Red Carpet, hosted by Uti Nwachukwu and VJ Adams, felt like a masterclass in high fashion. By the time IK Osakioduwa took the stage to host the main event at 7 PM, everyone was ready for magic.
It was glamour and gratitude. Recognition and emotion. Veteran actors Nkem ‘Osuofia’ Okoh and Sani Mu’azu received the Industry Merit Awards a well-deserved honour that brought the audience to its feet. Kayode Kasum took home the Trailblazer Award, a nod to his outstanding rise in the industry.
Seven Doors made headlines, taking home both Best Actor (Femi Adebayo) and Best Actress (Chioma Chukwuka). Chioma couldn’t attend, but Femi received her award on her behalf with a heartfelt tribute to her performance. The night also belonged to Lisabi: The Uprising, which earned the highest number of wins, including Best Indigenous Language Film, Best Makeup, and Best Art Direction.
All in all, AMVCA 2025 was a beautiful event with beautiful people. A glowing reminder of how far African storytelling, fashion, and film have come and how much more there is to look forward to.
