How to Apply for Collateral and Interest-Free Loan for Smallholder Farmers in Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a new loan initiative aimed at supporting smallholder farmers with access to funding. Under the FarmerMoni Programme, eligible farmers can receive up to ₦300,000 in interest-free and collateral-free loans to strengthen their agricultural activities. The scheme, part of the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) under the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), is designed to ease financial barriers and improve productivity. By targeting thousands of farmers across all 774 local government areas, the initiative seeks to boost food production, increase rural incomes, and promote economic stability within farming communities.

1. Confirm Your Eligibility

Before applying, make sure you meet all requirements:

  • You must be a Nigerian citizen (18 years and above)
  • You must be actively involved in farming
  • You must have a valid National Identification Number (NIN)
  • You must own a functional bank account
  • You must belong to a registered farming cooperative in your local government

2. Join a Recognised Farming Cooperative

This is very important.
The programme only accepts applicants who are part of a verified cooperative group. If you’re not already in one, register with a cooperative in your area through your local agricultural office.

3. Prepare Your Documents

Have the following ready before you start your application:

  • NIN slip or number
  • Bank account details
  • Personal information (name, phone number, address)
  • Cooperative details

4. Visit the Official Application Portal

Go to the official FarmerMoni portal:
https://geep.nsipa.gov.ng/

Make sure you use a secure internet connection and avoid third-party agents to prevent scams.

5. Fill Out the Application Form

  • Enter your correct personal and farming details
  • Provide your cooperative information
  • Double-check everything before submission

Mistakes can delay or disqualify your application.

6. Submit and Wait for Verification

After submission:

  • Your application will be reviewed
  • Your cooperative may be contacted for confirmation
  • Approved applicants will be notified via SMS or email

7. Receive Your Loan

If approved, you can receive up to ₦300,000, which must be used for:

  • Seeds and fertilisers
  • Farming tools and equipment
  • Other agricultural inputs

Apply early and ensure your details match official records (especially your NIN and bank account) to avoid delays.
