A Thrilling Finale During Detty December
Lagos came alive this Detty December with a mix of football, festivities, and an unmistakable holiday buzz. The maiden Lagos Liga football tournament delivered on its promise of excitement, as Abuja’s Primal Sporting FC claimed the ₦50 million prize in a dramatic final against Lagos-based Applebee FC.
The Mobolaji Johnson Arena was the place to be on Friday night, as fans gathered for the love of football and to revel in the holiday spirit. Amid the city’s Christmas lights and bustling events, Lagos Liga added its own unique touch to the season, blending the passion of football with the joy of Christmas.
A Finale Filled with Drama

Primal Sporting FC and Applebee FC gave fans a match to remember. Trailing 1-0 for most of the game, Primal Sporting equalised in the dying seconds of regular time, sending the final into a nail-biting extra time. The tension reached its peak when a VAR decision overturned Applebee’s penalty appeal into a free kick, drawing gasps and cheers from the packed arena.
The penalty shootout was the ultimate test of nerves, with both teams converting their first eight kicks. It was Primal Sporting’s goalkeeper who sealed the deal, saving Applebee’s ninth attempt to clinch a 9-8 victory and the coveted prize. This sent the entire stadium into a frenzy, a winner had finally emerged.
