Adebayo Ridwan Abidemi, popularly known as IsBae U, is a Nigerian comedian and content creator who has gained recognition for his comedy skits and unconventional celebrity interview show, Curiosity Made Me Ask. Known for his bold questions, playful teasing and unexpected conversations with celebrities, he has carved out a unique place for himself in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
But before he became known for putting celebrities on the spot, IsBae U explored different creative paths, from making music to acting and eventually comedy. His journey shows how trying something new and finding his own style helped him build a career that continues to attract attention.
Isbae U’s Early Life and Education
IsBae U spent much of his childhood around Ebute Metta and Yaba in Lagos. In an interview with Tribune, he revealed that after losing his mother, he moved to Lawanson to live with his aunt and complete his primary school education before returning to Ebute Metta for secondary school. He described his childhood as fun despite moving between different places.
His father, Kamal Adebayo, popularly known as Sir Kay-Kamoru, was a well-known Yoruba actor who appeared in several Nollywood films. Although IsBae U did not grow up closely with his father, they eventually became closer through their shared interest in entertainment. His father supported his career by offering advice and helping him connect with actors for his skits before his death in December 2022.
For his education, IsBae U attended Igbogbi Secondary School in Lagos before proceeding to Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), where he studied Mass Communication. In a 2020 interview with Punch, he disclosed that he had completed his National Diploma (ND) programme and planned to continue to the Higher National Diploma (HND) level.
His stage name also has an interesting story. According to an interview with Punch, the name “BaeU” came from his name, Bayo, and was a nickname he had while in secondary school. He later adopted the spelling “Isbae_u” for his Instagram handle, which eventually became the name audiences recognise today.
Isbae U’s Journey from Music to Comedy
Before gaining recognition for his comedy skits, IsBae U explored music and acting. He started out making rap music and sharing freestyle videos on Instagram, but the cost of recording songs made it difficult to pursue music the way he wanted. Rather than give up on entertainment, he began exploring other ways to express his creativity.
His interest in acting also gave him an early connection to the entertainment industry. He appeared in Yoruba films, including Aiye Ka Ye and Oba Ara, before focusing more on creating content for social media. However, comedy gradually became the path through which he found a wider audience.
IsBae U began making comedy skits in November 2017. In an interview with Punch in March 2020, he explained that he ventured into comedy because he enjoyed making people laugh. Although getting people to watch his videos was not easy at first, he continued creating content and sharing it on Instagram. He even had to ask blogs and more established social media personalities to repost his videos to help him reach more people.
His efforts eventually began to pay off. Around January 2019, his Bae_U Barbie and Catapult Thief series helped introduce his style of humour to a wider audience. These skits played an important role in building his online presence and establishing him as a comedian to watch.
IsBae U has also cited Nickelodeon as one of his influences, alongside the everyday experiences and situations that inspire his comedy. By turning familiar experiences into humorous content, he gradually developed a style that helped him stand out among other skit makers.
Isbae U and the Rise of Curiosity Made Me Ask
After gaining recognition through his comedy skits, IsBae U began looking for ways to expand his career beyond social media comedy. He wanted to try something different and create a format that would allow him to entertain audiences in a new way. This idea eventually led to Curiosity Made Me Ask, a comedy interview show that launched in December 2023.
The concept was inspired by Between Two Ferns, an American comedy interview series hosted by comedian Zach Galifianakis. In a September 2026 interview on The Morayo Show, IsBae U explained that watching the programme gave him the idea to develop his own version, while bringing his personality and style of humour into the format.
Unlike traditional celebrity interviews, Curiosity Made Me Ask features unusual questions, playful insults and sarcastic exchanges designed to catch guests off guard. Rather than following the usual interview format, IsBae U uses humour to create unexpected conversations and reveal a different side of the personalities who appear on the show.
Over time, the programme has featured several prominent guests, including veteran actors Pete Edochie and Kate Henshaw, singer Teni, content creator KieKie and former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo. Obasanjo’s appearance in September 2026 attracted considerable attention, with viewers discussing the humorous exchanges between the former president and the comedian. The interview also demonstrated how far the show had come, bringing IsBae U’s distinctive style of entertainment to audiences beyond the usual celebrity space.
Despite the show’s growing popularity, Bae U has admitted that interviewing older and more established personalities can make him nervous. Nevertheless, he continues to push himself creatively, using the programme to explore new opportunities and expand his reach beyond comedy skits.
Isbae U’s Career Growth and Impact

Over the years, IsBae U has grown from a young entertainer experimenting with music and comedy into a recognised figure in Nigeria’s digital entertainment industry. His willingness to try different creative approaches has helped him build a career that goes beyond making social media skits.
One of the things that sets him apart is his ability to create content that gets people talking. Through Curiosity Made Me Ask, he has built a platform where celebrities and public figures can engage with an unconventional style of interviewing. The show’s success has also introduced his humour to audiences who may not have followed his earlier comedy skits.
Beyond appearing in front of the camera, IsBae U has spoken about his work writing stories and helping other content creators develop their ideas. This behind-the-scenes work reflects another side of his career, showing that his involvement in entertainment extends beyond performing.
His journey has not been without challenges, including public criticism and the difficulties of getting his early content noticed. However, he has continued to explore new ideas and develop his craft. From his early attempts at music to building a comedy brand and hosting high-profile guests, his career reflects the importance of experimentation and persistence in the digital entertainment space.
As he continues to develop Curiosity Made Me Ask and explore other creative opportunities, IsBae U remains a notable name in Nigeria’s online entertainment scene.
